Kielder Water Sailing Club

1. Introduction

1.1 Managing a safe return to sailing activities at Kielder Water Sailing Club

This document outlines how we can safely resume water based recreational and organised sailing, windsurfing and SUP activities within our club, ensuring both our members and the local communities are safeguarded against spread of Covid-19.  We propose to implement a multistage and phased plan, as summarised in Figure 1.

2.1 Covid-19 Task Group

In line with RYA advice, Kielder Water Sailing Club has formed a Covid-19 task group. This group will be responsible to plan and make recommendations for what level of activity can return and when. The group will base these decisions on the latest UK Government guidelines, RYA guidance and providing access to the club and water is authorised by Northumbrian Water.

The Covid task group will comprise of Michelle Russell (Commodore), Richard Purdy (Vice Commodore), Anna Batchelor (Hon. Treasurer) & Jess Cowley (Committee member).

All communication with Northumbrian Water shall be made through Michelle Russell.

2.2 Responsibilities

2.2.1 Covid Task Group

  • Confirm what activity is permitted (within government guidelines / NWL regulations)
  • Manage the phased return Ref: (Table 1)
  • Assess Risks
  • Implement controls, policies & procedures
  • Communicate to committee & members
  • Meet weekly 
  • Adjust plans depending on on-going risks and UK Government Covid Alert Scale

2.2.2 Club Members

  • Ensure to follow all club guidelines
  • Always act with consideration towards fellow club members
  • Ensure to employ a large dose of common sense in conjunction with a generous slice of social responsibility

3. Revised Plan for Restarting Activity safely at KWSC (in line with UK Government Guidelines)

1. Access to club house, changing rooms & members galley will be permi]ed in line with UK Government & RYA guidelines for reopening club houses.

2. Options for informal racing to be reviewed.

3. Overnight stays will ini0ally be limited to campervans/motor homes and caravans with toilet facilities.

4. Camping in tents will initially only be possible for families with access to a caravan or campervan with toilet facilities.
