We keep our privacy notice under regular review. This privacy notice was last updated on 30th December 2013.

The information below covers our policies regarding:

Privacy Policy Introduction

The Club Website is a valuable communication medium, but presents issues regarding member privacy. This policy is designed to address these issues. It is based on the recommendations of the National Grid For Learning; details of which can be found at http://www.safety.ngfl.gov.uk

This privacy notice tells you what to expect when we collect personal information. It applies to information we collect about:

  • visitors to our websites
  • people who use our services, eg who subscribe to our newsletter or login to our website via an approved login identity

We will only use this personal information to provide you with the services you select. Member details may be collected via the 'Change of Personal Details' page. Again these will only be used for member contact and will not be divulged or sold to third parties. emails collected in this manner may be used to help with our Dutyman function to manage our sailing programme rota.

Visitors to our websites

When you visit our website we collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. We collect this information in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website except where you request services from us such as making a booking or requesting a newsletter. We will not associate any data gathered from this site with any identifying information from any source. If we do want to collect personally identifiable information through our website, we will be up front about this. We will make it clear when we collect personal information and will explain what we intend to do with it.

Publication Of Personal Details

Personal details will only be published with the express permission of the individuals involved. Even then, such details should be restricted e.g. occasionally, telephone numbers. It should always be borne in mind that parts of the website can be accessed by anyone - not just Club members. We will not routinely publish any members email addresses on the website other than potentially in the member's only area of the site.

Disclosure of Personal Information

In all circumstances we will not disclose personal data we hold about you without your consent. Such disclosure will only be used for the purposes intended.

Publication Of Images

Publication of images of members, especially children, again has issues with regard to protecting identity. To this end, the core principal of the policy is that if we publish a name, we do not publish a picture. If we publish a picture, we do not publish a name.

Images will usually be in the form of general photographs of members taking part in an activity, or of groups.

Permission must be sought from subjects in either of the following cases:

A close-up image An occasion where we may wish to identify a subject by name

Image content must be appropriate. When publishing images, the subjects must be appropriately dressed. In particular, images of Juniors sailing during the summer may well portray them wearing swimsuits. While this dress is appropriate for the activity, it may not be appropriate for publication on the website.

If inappropriate content is discovered on the website, then in the first instance the webmaster should be contacted via the feedback page.
